The countdown is on! Western Sydney Airport takes off this October ✈️
Our next holiday could soon start closer to home—and I’m excited!
Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport opens to passengers on Sunday, 25 October 2026. As I write this on 8 October, that’s just 17 days away.
The historic first commercial passenger flight will be Jetstar JQ362, scheduled to depart at 11am for the Gold Coast. Sunshine, beaches and a brand-new airport experience—what a way to launch!
For those of us in Camden, Macarthur and Western Sydney, this brings a welcome new departure option when planning our holidays.
Who’s flying—and where can we go?
Here’s the announced passenger schedule, with operating days shown for departures from Western Sydney Airport (WSI):
Airline | Destination | Starts | Operating days |
Jetstar | Gold Coast | 25 October 2026 | Daily |
Jetstar | Melbourne | 25 October 2026 | Daily, with up to 14 flights weekly |
Jetstar | Brisbane | 25 October 2026 | Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday |
Air New Zealand | Auckland | 26 October 2026 | Monday, Wednesday and Friday |
Singapore Airlines | Singapore | 23 November 2026 | Daily |
Vietjet Air | Ho Chi Minh City | 10 January 2027 | Wednesday and Sunday initially |
Fiji Airways | Nadi, Fiji | 19 March 2027 | Monday, Friday and Sunday |
Qantas, operated by QantasLink | Melbourne | 28 March 2027 | Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday |
Qantas, operated by QantasLink | Brisbane | 28 March 2027 | Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday |
Jetstar’s Gold Coast service has already increased from the original four flights a week to daily, following strong demand. Its Brisbane operating days and QantasLink’s schedules are published in the airlines’ launch announcement.
Air New Zealand’s Auckland service will be the airport’s first international passenger route, followed by Singapore Airlines’ daily flights in November.
Vietjet’s first flight leaves Vietnam on 9 January, with the first Western Sydney departure on 10 January. The airline plans to increase to three weekly services from March; the additional operating day should be checked when booking. Fiji Airways’ Nadi flights are also on sale.
More destinations are on the horizon
Bangkok is planned for November 2027, with Vietjet Thailand proposing four weekly services, subject to regulatory approvals. Operating days are yet to be confirmed.
And Bali lovers, keep watching: Jetstar has proposed daily Western Sydney–Denpasar flights from 15 March 2027. This remains subject to approval, so it’s one to watch rather than treat as a confirmed booking option today.
Where will your first trip take you?
A Gold Coast family escape? A Melbourne weekend? A Fiji resort stay? Or perhaps Singapore paired with a cruise or an onward international holiday?
The new daily Singapore Airlines service is particularly exciting for my cruise clients. Its announced late-night departure from WSI offers another way to reach Singapore and connect through Changi to destinations across the airline’s network.
I can help you compare departures from Western Sydney and Sydney Kingsford Smith, then bring together the flights, accommodation, transfers and cruise arrangements that suit your holiday.
